OKLAHOMA CITY, May 21, 2025 – Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the recipient of the Michael Jordan Trophy as the 2024-25 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player, it was announced today by the NBA. This marks the first such honor for Gilgeous-Alexander.
Gilgeous-Alexander appeared in 76 games (all starts) and averaged a league-best 32.7 points on 51.9% shooting, including 37.5% from three-point range, to go along with 6.4 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 1.72 steals (fifth in NBA) and 1.00 block in 34.2 minutes of action per game. He became just the second player in NBA history to average at least 30 points on 50% shooting to go along with at least 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.50 steals and 1.00 blocks [Michael Jordan (1987-88 and 1990-91)].
The seven-year NBA veteran posted his third-straight season averaging 30-plus points on 50% shooting, just the fifth player in NBA history to accomplish this (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan). Gilgeous-Alexander scored 2,484 total points during the season, most in the NBA. 2,099 of those points came through just three quarters of play, which would still rank second in the NBA. He recorded 20-plus points in 72 straight games this season, second longest streak in NBA history. He also compiled 208 stocks (steals + blocks) on the season, third most in the NBA.
He finished the season ranked first in both win shares (16.7) and defensive win shares (4.8) while producing the best win shares per 48 minutes season since Steph Curry in 2015-16 and the 10th best in NBA history. He joins Kevin Durant (2013-14) and Russell Westbrook (2016-17) as the third player in Thunder history to receive this honor. Oklahoma City becomes just the fifth team in NBA history to have three different MVP winners and the first team in NBA history to have three MVP recipients in a 12-year span.
