GAME PREVIEW
Matt Meyer: Sooners found a way to beat New Mexico 14-6 on Saturday, but their struggles on offense continue. OU is completely stuck in the mud on that side of the ball and needs to find answers fast. John Mateer threw 2 INT’s and Oklahoma averaged less than 2 yards per carry. Sooners didn’t even get to 300 total yards. Fortunately, Oklahoma’s defense is as good as there is, as the Sooners held New Mexico to 12 first downs and 185 total yards, racking up 6 sacks and 10 tackles for loss in the process. This defense will keep OU in most games, but the question is can Oklahoma score enough to take advantage?
The SEC gauntlet begins this Saturday as Oklahoma goes to Georgia for a 2:30 kickoff on ESPN. The Bulldogs are 3-0, ranked 2nd in the country, and are averaging 59 points per game. Granted, the Sooners will be the best defense that the Dogs have seen, by miles, but OU will have to muster up some offense if they’re going to win in Athens. Gunner Stockton has completed 84% of his passes, has thrown 9 TD’s against 0 INT’s, and has only been sacked 3 times. Nate Frazier is averaging more than 8 yards a carry, and Craig Dandridge is averaging 24 yards per catch. Unless the Sooners unveil something we haven’t seen the last two weeks, I don’t see how OU can score enough to beat Georgia.
