Matt Meyer: Cowboys dismantled Murray State 59-0 on Saturday in a completely one sided affair. Drew Mestemaker was 20-22 for 324 yards and 5 scores, and Justin Bowick caught 9 passes for 178 yards and 2 TD’s. Pokes held the Racers to 5 first downs, 0-12 on third down, and 160 total yards. Sure, Murray State was a cupcake, but the Cowboys did what you should do to an undermanned opponent.
OSU begins conference play this Saturday in Morgantown against West Virginia at 6:00 on FS1. Mountaineers are 3-0 after beating 25th ranked Virginia in Charlotte last Saturday. Former Sooner QB Michael Hawkins ran for three TD’s and threw for two scores, and the Mountaineers ran for 247 yards in the win. Hawkins has been solid throwing the ball this season, completing 68% of his passes with 5 TD’s and no picks, and he’s West Virginia’s leading rusher. D.J. Epps is the main threat at receiver, as he’s caught 8 passes for 240 yards and 3 scores. I think the Cowboys are better defensively and if they can contain Hawkins’ rushing, the Pokes should win this game. Let Hawkins run wild, and this one will be a track meet.
