Matt Meyer:Â A lack of offense doomed the Sooners in Ann Arbor as Michigan beat Oklahoma 17-10 last Saturday. OUâs defense held up their end of the bargain, limiting Michigan to 14 first downs and 263 yards. The Soonersâ offense struggled all day, as OU didnât get on the board until the third quarter and only gained 289 yards of their own. Plenty of blame to go around. John Mateer wasnât as accurate as he needs to be, WRâs didnât get open as much as they needed to, and the offensive line didnât have a good day. Michiganâs winning TD was set up by a Mateer INT that was returned to the OU 6. Two plays later, Jordan Marshall found the end zone from a yard out, and the Wolverines had a 17-10 lead that would hold up. Give Michiganâs defense credit for shutting the Sooner offense down, but OU needs to find answers on if they have any hope of making a playoff run.
Oklahoma closes out non conference play with New Mexico Saturday at 6:30 on ESPN2. Lobos come to Norman 2-0, outscoring their opponents 108-14. RB Scottre Humphrey is averaging over 6 yards per carry, and RB Kiefer Sibley is at almost 8 yards per rush. WRâs Troy Omeire and D.J. Darling both average 22 yards per catch. DE Brett Karhu has 2 ½ sacks to lead the Lobos. Jason Eck is in his second season as New Mexicoâs head coach, and last year he led the Lobos to their first winning season since 2016. This is not a bad team coming to Norman but one that OU should beat comfortably. Sooners 34 Lobos 13
