Game Preview
Matt Meyer: Cowboys celebrated homecoming in style with a dominating second half against Colorado. Pokes beat the Buffs 57-24 Saturday night, outscoring Colorado 34-0 in the second half. Drew Mestemaker threw for more than 300 yards for the 6th consecutive game, Caleb Hawkins had 24 touches for 192 yards, Justin Bowick caught 5 passes for 138 yards and a score, and LaDainian Fields picked off two Colorado passes, had 1 ½ TFL, and matched Ethan Wesloski for the team lead in tackles. It’s still concerning that the Pokes are struggling defensively in the first halves of games, but did they ever put the clamps on the Buffs in the second half.
OSU travels to Ames on Saturday to meet Iowa State at 6:00 PM on FS1. Cyclones are 3-4 and 1-3 in league play as they get set to face their third consecutive ranked opponent. RB Aiden Flora leads the offense with 716 yards rushing on 7 yards/carry. QB Jaylen Raynor has only completed 59% of his passes and has only thrown 7 TD’s against 4 INT’s. This is not an explosive offense that Oklahoma State will be going against. LB Sullivan Schlimgen leads Iowa State with 71 tackles. ISU has only picked off opposing QB’s twice this season. As long as the Cowboys contain the Cyclones’ ground game, OSU shouldn’t have too much trouble on Saturday.
A stronger start in this one, please?
Cowboys 38 Cyclones 20
