GAME PREVIEWS
Matt Meyer: As Al said to begin Football Feedback Saturday night, “so much for the momentum of beating Texas.” Oklahoma lost to Kentucky 21-13 to fall to 3-3 and 1-2 in SEC play. Against a poor defense, John Mateer threw three interceptions, the first of which led to a Wildcat TD and completely changed the momentum of the game. Mateer’s second pick was returned 41 yards for a score and set the final margin. Kentucky allows an average of 26 points per game; the Sooners only mustered 13. The Wildcats allow an average of 127 rushing yards per game; Oklahoma gained 76. Mateer threw the ball well at times, but if you lose the turnover battle 4-0, you’re not going to beat anyone. OU’s defense deserves better than this, and as Jim talked about after the game, this is the kind of situation that can cause a team to splinter. Hopefully all the cliches about togetherness and brotherhood are true with this bunch.
Sooners head to Starkville next to play Mississippi State Saturday at 2:30 on SEC Network. Biggest question in this one is whether or not Bulldogs’ QB Kamario Taylor will play. Taylor has been dealing with a foot injury since MSU beat Missouri September 26th, and he did not play in the Bulldogs’ 31-0 loss to LSU this past Saturday. When Taylor has been on the field and healthy, he’s been fantastic, completing 66% of his passes for 1,450 yards with 17 TD’s against 4 INT’s. Mississippi State has the 11th worst pass defense in the FBS, but a bad Oklahoma offensive line is decimated with injuries and Mateer is probably good for at least two turnovers.
Bulldogs 20 Sooners 17 if Taylor plays
Sooners 17 Bulldogs 13 if Taylor does not play
