Game Preview

Matt Meyer: Sooners took another step towards a College Football Playoff berth with a 17-6 win over Missouri on Saturday. The Oklahoma defense was stout once again, holding Tiger RB Ahmad Hardy to 57 yards on 17 carries, with 20 of those coming on one run. OU picked off Beau Pribula twice, as the Sooners have forced 8 turnovers over the course of their 3 game winning streak. Oklahoma’s offense didn’t have much success, but John Mateer found Isaiah Sategna for an 87 yard TD in the second quarter, and after a Missouri punt, Mateer hit JaVonnie Gibson for an 8 yard score to give the Sooners a 14-3 lead. OU shut out the Tigers in the second half to preserve the win over their old Big 8 and Big 12 rival.

LSU comes to Norman on Saturday for a 2:30 kick on ABC in the regular season finale. Disappointing season for the Tigers as head coach Brian Kelly was fired after an embarrassing loss at home to Texas A&M. Michael Van Buren, Jr. has played well after taking over for an injured Garrett Nussmeier at QB. Van Buren has completed 64% of his passes for 647 yards with 4 TD’s and only 1 INT in 100 attempts. As a team, the Tigers average less than 4 yards per rush. LSU is 16th in scoring defense and 22nd in total defense. The Tigers have 7 different players that have 2 INT’s this year. Expect another hard fought game that will go into the 4th quarter. Neither team is very good offensively, and the Sooners are a little better defensively. OU punches their ticket to the Playoff.
