Game Preview
Matt Meyer: Oklahoma fell to 6-2 on the season with a 34-26 loss to Ole Miss on Saturday. The Rebels had the best offense the Sooners had faced all year long, and OU’s defense had a tough time dealing with it. Trinidad Chambliss threw for 315 yards and made key plays on third down running and throwing. Oklahoma racked up 14 tackles for loss and 10 pass deflections, but often when the Sooner defense would make a play, Ole Miss would answer with a great throw on 3rd down, or Chambliss would scramble to move the chains. John Mateer threw for 223 yards and a TD, a 76 yarder to Isaiah Sategna. Sategna had 6 catches for 131 yards and the score, but he also had a critical fumble on a punt return that would’ve given the Sooners the ball around midfield with 7:00 minutes remaining and trailing by 5. The Rebels used that turnover to kick a FG and put the game out of reach. Overall, the defense wasn’t good enough and the offense wasn’t quite good enough to match scores with Ole Miss. Xavier Robinson had two rushing TD’s, including a 65 yarder that gave the Sooners a jolt of momentum, but OU wasn’t able to sustain that jolt in the fourth quarter as they were outscored 9-0 in the final frame.
