Connor McDavid scored a goal and added three assists to lead the visiting Edmonton Oilers to a 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night.
With the win, the Oilers have points in six games to open the season and remain the lone team in the NHL without a regulation loss.
Vasily Podkolzin tallied twice, Leon Draisaitl scored and added an assist and goaltender Devon Levi made a career-high 39 saves to improve to 4-0-0 this season.
Brandt Clarke responded for the Kings, who have gone five straight games without a win to open the season.
Los Angeles goaltender Darcy Kuemper allowed three goals on seven first-period shots and was replaced by Anton Forsberg, who made nine saves in relief.
Trailing 3-0, Clarke got the Kings on the board at 17:29 of the middle frame, putting a point shot past a screened Levi for his first goal of the season.
Podkolzin added an empty-netter from Draisaitl and McDavid at 17:42 of the third to restore the three-goal lead.
Edmonton was outshot 11-7 in the opening period but led 3-0 after 20 minutes.
Draisaitl opened the scoring at 7:16, redirecting a McDavid pass short-side past Kuemper for his fourth of the season.
Edmonton doubled its lead on a power play a minute later as Podkolzin tapped in the rebound off McDavid’s shot for his sixth of the season.
Podkolzin has points in six straight to open the season (seven goals, two assists).
Edmonton defenseman Ty Emberson sprung McDavid in all alone at 15:48 of the opening frame, and the Oilers captain beat Kuemper with a short-side backhand for his fourth of the season, giving Edmonton a 3-0 lead.
McDavid, a seven-time All-Star who skated in career game No. 800 on Tuesday, extended his point streak six games (four goals, 13 assists). The 17 points in six games is the best stretch to start a season for the 29-year-old.
Tuesday was the first of four meetings between the Kings and Oilers this season. Los Angeles won two of three meetings with the Pacific Division rivals last season, but the Oilers outscored the Kings 11-5 over the three games.
The two teams meet next in Los Angeles on Jan. 21.
