Resilient, tough, and clutch win for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday as Dallas rallied from a 21-0 deficit to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21 on Sunday inside AT&T Stadium. The rally from 21 points down ties a team record for biggest deficit overcome in a victory, and it was the first such win for the Cowboys since 2014. Sunday’s game was the first time that the Eagles have lost a game in which they led by 21 points since 1999. Dallas improves to 5-5-1 and will host the Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving Day.

It couldn’t have started much worse for the Cowboys, as Dallas made about every mistake that you could make early on, and the Eagles took advantage of them. Rather than punting and playing field position, the Cowboys failed to convert a 4th and 3 at the 50 yard line, and 7 plays later, A.J. Brown caught a 16 yard TD pass from Jalen Hurts. After a 3 and out, the Eagles went 76 yards in 12 plays, aided by a roughing the punter penalty by Ryan Flournoy that gave Philly the ball back at their own 39. After three straight incompletions, the Eagles were given another chance on 3rd down because Jadeveon Clowney lined up offside. Philadelphia converted on 3rd and 5, and 5 plays later, Hurts ran it in from 7 yards out, and it looked like the rout was on.
Five plays into the ensuing drive, KaVontae Turpin fumbled the ball after running into one of his linemen, and the Eagles would take advantage, going 66 yards in 6 plays with Hurts scoring from 1 yard out to make it 21-0. On the next drive, the Cowboys moved the ball to the Eagles’ 1, but a false start by Tyler Guyton backed Dallas up five yards, and on the next play, Prescott threw an interception in the end zone. At that point, if you had told me that Dallas would win this game, I would have laughed at you. From then on however, the Cowboys took the game over. Dallas forced a three and out, and then went 72 yards in 6 plays, capped by a 1 yard TD pass from Prescott to George Pickens, and the Cowboys had some life going into halftime.

The Cowboys drew closer with 2:02 left in the third quarter as Prescott found Brevyn Spann-Ford for his first career TD, a 4 yard score that cut the Eagles lead to 21-14. After an Eagles missed FG, Dallas went 54 yards in only 3 plays, with Prescott somersaulting into the end zone on an 8 yard TD run, and the game was tied at 21-21. The Cowboys were unable to take advantage of a Saquon Barkley fumble, but on the ensuing punt, long snapper Trent Sieg recovered an Xavier Gipson fumble, and Dallas had the ball at the Eagles’ 8. The Cowboys would have a 2nd and goal at the 2 and two tries from the 1, but rather than taking the chip shot FG, Dallas tried to punch it in the end zone and came up empty when Jake Ferguson caught a fourth down pass short of the goal line. That’s two Dallas drives that made it to the Eagles’ 1 and two more that made it inside the Philly 35 that the Cowboys failed to score any points.
In case anyone needs an explanation as to what effort looks like:

After two first downs, Osa Odighizuwa sacked Hurts on 3rd and 2 at the Eagles’ 37, and the Cowboys would take advantage. After a 19 yard completion to Ferguson and a 24 yard strike to Pickens, Brandon Aubrey hit a 42 yard FG as time expired, and the comeback was complete. This is the type of game that Dallas doesn’t win often. Have to give this team a ton of credit to rally from 21 down after playing on Monday night and then making so many dumb mistakes in the first half. Philadelphia made plenty of mistakes to help as well with two turnovers in the second half and 14 penalties for 96 yards.

Prescott made history in this game, leaping Tony Romo for the most passing yards in Cowboys history with 34,378. He also passed Romo for most game winning drives led when either tied or trailing in the fourth quarter or overtime, as Prescott now has 25 of those. With Dak as the starting QB, the Cowboys have now won 19 consecutive home games against NFC East competition.
What’s up with CeeDee Lamb dropping passes against the Eagles? That’s six in two games against Philadelphia this season. Not WR1 type stuff.
A.J. Brown caught 8 passes for 110 yards and a TD on 10 targets as it was clear that the Eagles made him a focal point of the game plan. Wonder if he’s happy this week.
Hopefully the Cowboys got all of their celebrating out of the way on Sunday night because the Kansas City Chiefs come to Arlington on Thanksgiving Day at 3:30 PM on CBS. Chiefs are in a three way tie at 6-5, a game out of the final playoff spot, due mostly to them losing close games. The 5 losses are by a combined 22 points, all were one score games, and all to teams that are currently in the playoffs. Patrick Mahomes plays QB for them. That’s really all that needs to be said. Mahomes is 2nd in the league in passing, behind only Drake Maye. Talk about sentences that I didn’t think I’d ever put together. All the team stats look good: 5th in total offense, 2nd in pass offense, 14th in rush offense, and 9th in scoring offense. On the flip side, KC is 6th in total defense, 11th in pass defense, 8th in rush defense, and 4th in scoring defense. Only the Jets, Commanders, and Giants have taken the ball away from their opponents less, but only the Eagles and Packers have given the ball away less. It’s a solid team all around that has played better than their record would indicate. Oh yeah, and Mahomes. I’m not ready to dive in head first with the Cowboys just yet. Win this game, and we’ll talk.
