Game Preview
Matt Meyer: Fantastic win for Oklahoma on Saturday, 23-21 at Alabama to improve to 8-2 and 4-2 in SEC play. OU turned three Alabama turnovers into 17 points, highlighted by an 87 yard interception return for a TD by Eli Bowen. Ty Simpson and the Alabama offense had their share of success, but the turnovers were killer for the Crimson Tide. The Sooner offense didn’t get a lot going on the ground or through the air, but they took care of the ball and took advantage of their opportunities. A team that struggled to create turnovers early in the season has now taken the ball away from their opponent six times over the last two games, and it’s been the biggest factor in wins at Tennessee and Alabama. The win vaults OU squarely into College Football Playoff discussion, and if the Sooners can win their final two games, OU will be in the playoff for the first time in the 12 team era and the first time overall since 2019.
Missouri (7-3, 3-3) comes to Norman this Saturday for an 11:00 kickoff on ABC. Matt Zenitz of CBS has reported that Tiger QB Beau Pribula could return this Saturday after suffering a gruesome dislocated ankle against Vanderbilt on October 25th. If Pribula isn’t able to go, freshman Matt Zollers would be in line to get the start again for Mizzou. RB Ahmad Hardy has ran for 1,346 yards this season, so the Sooner defense will see a much better rushing attack this week. Missouri has the sixth ranked rush offense in college football. WR Kevin Coleman has 56 catches for 600 yards and a score, and he’s the go to guy when Mizzou goes to the air. Missouri is 10th in total defense, 15th against the pass, 19th against the run, and 25th in points allowed. The Tigers have racked up 29 sacks this season, led by DE Damon Wilson with 7 and DE Zion Young with 5 ½. Missouri’s losses came against Alabama, Vanderbilt, and Texas A&M, which are all understandable, but the Tigers have not had a top flight win this season. That can change if the Sooners don’t come into this week focused and if they’re riding too high from the win in Tuscaloosa. Dangerous game if Oklahoma doesn’t have a great week of preparation and if they aren’t ready to play.
