Honoring a Legend: Justin Blackmon Joins the Cowboy Football Ring of Honor
Former Oklahoma State wide receiver and College Football Hall of Fame inductee Justin Blackmon will be added to the Cowboy Football Ring of Honor inside Boone Pickens Stadium during halftime of Saturday’s game. One of only two players in history to win two Fred Biletnikoff Awards, Blackmon is one of the most dominant wide receivers to ever play college football. Blackmon was unquestionably the best receiver in America in both 2010 and 2011, winning the Biletnikoff Awards after both his sophomore and junior seasons. His 1,782 receiving yards in 2010 set an NCAA sophomore record, and his 20 touchdown receptions in 2010 were the seventh-most ever recorded. He also holds NCAA records with 14-straight games with at least 100 receiving yards and 14-straight games with at least 100 receiving yards and a touchdown. In his career he amassed totals of 253 receptions for 3,564 receiving yards and 42 touchdowns. In addition to those honors, Blackmon is the only two-time unanimous All-America selection in Oklahoma State history. He was the 2010 FBS leader in receiving yards per game and receiving touchdowns and named the 2010 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. As a junior in 2011, Blackmon was the primary focus of every defense that OSU faced, but he still made 122 catches for 1,522 yards with 18 touchdowns. His 122 receptions set the 13th-highest total in NCAA history and he was named offensive MVP of both the 2010 Alamo Bowl and the 2012 Fiesta Bowl. Following his collegiate career, he was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Blackmon is one of eight representatives from Oklahoma State in the College Football Hall of Fame, joined by coach Lynn “Pappy” Waldorf (inducted in 1966), Bob Fenimore (inducted in 1972), Barry Sanders (inducted in 2003), Thurman Thomas (inducted in 2008), coach Jimmy Johnson (inducted in 2012), Leslie O’Neal (inducted in 2020) and Terry Miller (inducted in 2022). Blackmon also holds membership in the OSU Athletics Hall of Honor. Now, he joins Thurman Thomas, Barry Sanders, Bob Fenimore, Terry Miller and Leslie O’Neal as members of the Cowboy Football Ring of Honor.
The Series
Saturday’s game marks the 72nd overall meeting between Oklahoma State and Kansas State in a series that dates to 1908. The 2025 season also marks the 16th consecutive year the teams have played. OSU holds a 43-28 all-time advantage in the series, including a 24-9 edge in games played in Stillwater. The Cowboys have won 10 of the past 16 meetings in the series, as well as four of the past six. OSU has also won eight of the past nine games played in Stillwater. KSU coach Chris Klieman is 2-4 against the Cowboys, and OSU interim head coach Doug Meacham is in his first season as a head coach.
In the Rankings
Oklahoma State is not ranked, but the Cowboys have been ranked at some point in every season from 2008-24. Through the 2024 season, Oklahoma State has been ranked in the top 15 of the Associated Press poll in 15 of the past 17 seasons and has reached the top 10 in 11 of those 17 years. It’s also worth noting that OSU has been part of the CFP rankings in eight of the past 10 seasons entering 2025. The Cowboys have also been included in 43 of the all-time CFP Rankings, which ranks among the most appearances in the country. Kansas State is not ranked.
Boone Pickens Stadium Named the Best in the Country
Oklahoma State’s Boone Pickens Stadium is the best college football stadium in the country according to USA TODAY, which used reviews from Yelp, Tripadvisor and Google to compile college football stadium rankings for 2025. In more than 1,700 combined reviews between the three services, Boone Pickens Stadium has an average of 4.8 stars to edge out Kansas State’s Bill Snyder Family Stadium and Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium for the top spot among the 136 FBS venues.
Oklahoma State from a Distance
Oklahoma State is 1-8 overall and 0-6 in conference play. OSU’s latest game at Kansas marked the sixth career game as a head coach for interim head coach Doug Meacham. It was also the fifth game as interim defensive coordinator for former quality control coach Clint Bowen, who was elevated to the position September 28. The Cowboys are comprised of a majority of newcomers, as 62 of the 114 players on the roster (54%) were not part of the team in December. Through nine games, 20 of OSU’s players with at least one start are newcomers. Bright spots so far have included redshirt freshman running back Rodney Fields Jr., who recorded 163 rushing yards against Cincinnati to rank as the fifth-most for a freshman in a game in school history, and edge rusher Wendell Gregory, who was named a semifinalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award. Quarterbacks Hauss Hejny and Zane Flores have been sidelined with injuries, and wide receiver Sam Jackson V has stepped in and started at quarterback in their absence in three games. Flores returned to the starting lineup at Kansas and performed well in his return.
