Two days after signing free agent Drake Jackson, the Washington Commanders placed the edge rusher on injured reserve on Thursday.
Multiple reports said the team’s plan all along was to “stash and save” the 24-year-old former second-round pick, who is coming back from a serious knee injury.
Jackson will have to sit out at least four games. His earliest debut with the team would be Washington’s Week 11 game against the Miami Dolphins in Madrid, Spain.
Jackson sustained a torn patellar tendon in Week 8 of the 2023 season and missed the entire 2024 season before being waived by the San Francisco 49ers in May with a failed physical designation.
Before the injury, he recorded 21 tackles, six sacks, nine quarterback hits, nine passes defensed and an interception in 23 games (no starts) for the 49ers from 2022-23.
