Game Previews
Matt Meyer: Tough day for the Sooners inside the Cotton Bowl on Saturday as Texas dominated the 2nd half en route to a 23-6 win over Oklahoma. QB John Mateer returned to the field 17 days after hand surgery, but for the third time in four years, OU did not find the end zone against the Longhorns. If you lose the turnover battle 3-0, run for less than 2 yards per carry, allow a 75 yard punt return for a TD, and allow your opposition to consistently convert third downs in the second half, you’re probably not going to win a game against anybody, let alone a talented Texas team. Oklahoma will look to rebound from their first loss of the season as they head to South Carolina this Saturday for an 11:45 AM kickoff on SEC Network. QB LaNorris Sellers has completed 64% of his passes for over 1,000 yards, but he’s been sacked 19 times, and the Gamecocks have only rushed for just over 3 yards per carry. South Carolina is decent defensively, and there are major questions surrounding OU’s offensive line right now, in terms of health and ability. This might be the most winnable game left on Oklahoma’s schedule. Sooners 23 Gamecocks 16
