Game Previews
Matt Meyer: The frustration continues in Stillwater as Houston beat Oklahoma State 39-17 on Saturday. RB Rodney Fields, Jr. had 107 scrimmage yards and a TD, plus Gavin Freeman had a TD reception, but there were not many bright spots other than those. Cougar QB Connor Weigman threw for 306 yards and 2 TD’s, and WR Amare Thomas caught 7 passes for 157 yards. Houston had 27 first downs to OSU’s 10, and the Cougars outgained the Cowboys 485-225. There’s just not a lot for the Pokes to hang their hat on. Next up, homecoming week as the Cincinnati Bearcats come to town for a 7:00 PM kickoff on ESPN 2. Cincy is 5-1 overall, 3-0 in Big 12 play, and has cracked the top 25 as one of the surprise teams in the league this season. QB Brendan Sorsby has thrown for nearly 1,500 yards, 14 TD’s against only 1 INT, and he’s only been sacked one time. The Bearcats have three different backs, including Sorsby, that have ran for more than 300 yards this season. Evan Pryor averages 8 yards per carry and former Sooner Tawee Walker is averaging more than 5 a carry. Caleb Goodie is Cincinnati’s leading receiver as he averages almost 21 yards per reception. The Bearcats are better at stopping the run than the pass and amazingly, Cincinnati has not picked off an opposing QB this season. Homecoming will be fun. The game won’t be. Bearcats 41 Cowboys 20
