Report: Rockets GM Morey steps down

Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey stepped down Thursday after 13 seasons at the helm of the franchise.

ESPN first reported Morey was moving on. Executive vice president of basketball operations Rafael Stone is being promoted to general manager, per the report.

Morey plans to remain with the team as an advisor but is considering moving on from sports, per the report.

The Rockets have the longest streak of consecutive playoff appearances in the NBA with eight.

Houston has been interviewing candidates to replace head coach Mike D’Antoni with Stone playing a big role in those discussions.

Morey told owner Tilman Fertitta he was planning to leave not long after the Rockets were eliminated from the playoffs, ESPN reported.
