High winds interrupt third round at Genesis Invitational

High winds took a bite out of the third round Saturday at the Genesis Invitational at Pacific Palisades, Calif., causing a weather delay just as the final group prepared to tee off at the opening hole.

Gusts between 30 and 40 mph began to wreak havoc at Riviera Country Club just as Sam Burns, Tyler McCumber and Jason Kokrak reached the elevated first tee.

Before PGA Tour officials blew an air horn to signify the delay, Keegan Bradley had a long putt at the 10th hole blow off the green, roll between two bunkers and toward the rough.

At the green on the fourth hole, J.B. Holmes stood over a putt when his cap was blown off his head. Holmes backed off his putt as the wind then blew his ball across the green to the fringe.

Instead of waiting to see if the wind would relent, the entire field was pulled off the course near the Pacific Ocean just outside of Los Angeles. Players were given the option of finishing their current hole or returning later to pick up where they left off.

Burns had a commanding five-shot lead after two rounds at 12-under par. He followed a 7-under 64 on Thursday with a 5-under 66 on Friday in sunny and calm conditions.
