Alex second LPGA player to test positive for COVID-19

Marina Alex became the second LPGA player to test positive for COVID-19 ahead of the tour’s restart this weekend in Ohio.

Alex posted a statement to Twitter saying she has withdrawn from the Drive On Championship to be held in Toledo, Ohio, and that she is asymptomatic. She was tested July 21.

“I know this virus has affected so many lives and it is not something I am taking lightly,” Alex wrote. “I have remained in isolation while continuing a testing regiment which has successfully provided 3 negative tests in the last 7 days.

“I have exhausted every resource possible to be able to compete at Inverness, however due to current CDC guidelines and the current protocols the LPGA has put in place for our safety my official clearance date does not allow me to compete this week,” Alex said.

Gaby Lopez was the first to test positive and a caddie, who was not named, also tested positive in the pre-travel phase of the testing protocol.

Alex is 15th on the LPGA’s money leaders for 2020 with $88,810 in winnings.

The first round tees off Friday.
