F1 – Monaco Grand Prix Preview

Back again, and set to go lights out in Monte Carlo.

Last week’s race at Imola was canceled due to historic flooding in the area. F1 donated $1 million Euros to help aid the region, as did Ferrari.

Let’s give a little Monaco GP history before we get into this week’s race.

· Ayrton Senna hold the record for most wins with 6, and winning 5 in a row from 1989 to 1993.

· They’ve been racing at Monaco since 1929, and in Formula one since 1950.

· Part of the Triple Crown of Motorsports along with the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours at Le Mans.

· British driver, Graham Hill is the only driver to complete the Triple Crown.

Now on to the race this weekend.

The Monaco Grand Prix is essentially Formula 1’s version of the Daytona 500 or the Indy 500. It’s the one everyone wants to win. It also happens to fall on the same weekend as the Indianapolis 500 every year, so it’s a big weekend for F1 and Indy car.

The GP is fought over 78 Laps on the historic streets of Monte Carlo. The track is small, so qualifying is very important for this race. Monaco has some very tight turns, and is hard to pass on, so we could see some action to start the race.

Last year we had Ferrari calling in Charles Leclerc for a pit late in the race. This blunder lead to King of the Streets himself Checo Perez taking the lead and eventually winning.

This week it’s hard to see Red Bull not dominating, and finishing P1 and P2 like they have in all but one race this year.

Mercedes are implementing some new changes to their car that were meant for Imola last week. They probably won’t see the fruits of their labor until next week in Spain, just based on how Monaco races.

Aston Martin looks to continue their hot streak, and if Alonso continues to qualify well he has a real shot at winning.

Other news in Formula One:

· Nyck De Vries could be on the hot seat, as he struggles to find his way in F1.

· Aston Martin and Honda are joining forces in 2026.

We go lights out at 8 am CT on ABC Sunday morning!
