Mexico’s Gaby Lopez, still looking for her first career LPGA win three years after turning pro, is the leader after the first round of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.Lopez, 24, opened with a 8-under-par 63 at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Ark., to grab a one-shot advantage over seven players. The bogey-free round was a pleasant change for Lopez, who missed the cut in each of her two most recent events, the U.S. Women’s Open and the ShopRite LPGA Classic. A tie for 10th at the LPGA Volvik Championship last month was her best result of the season. She has missed the cut in half of her 12 previous events in 2018.”I’ve been working with my coach … working on some just basic stuff,” Lopez said. “I’m not getting away from fundamentals. I think in that space where you are playing so much golf, four weeks in a row, you sometimes get off (kilter) on little details. Just being aware of those things that actually make a difference.”Lopez is back in the state where she played for the University of Arkansas golf team, finishing as the 2015 NCAA individual runner-up.
