Millions of people will watch football players run and jump

When NFL Network first decided to start showing the Scouting Combine on TV, a lot of skeptics asked, "Who on earth would watch a bunch of guys running and jumping?"

The answer: Millions of people.

In fact, NFL Network drew an audience of 7.25 million viewers for the Scouting Combine, its best number ever and up 11 percent from last year's 6.51 million viewers. On three of the four days when on-field workouts were taking place, Combine ratings were up this year from last year. Only Sunday, when quarterbacks work out, was down: This year's weak crop of quarterbacks didn't draw as many fans as last year's class, led by Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III.

And this serves as one more reminder that in American television, nothing can measure up to the NFL. Fans will watch anything NFL-related, even if it's just 40-yard dashes run by a bunch of guys who aren't even in the NFL yet.
