An ACL injury in the first game of the season resulted in Tulsa wide receiver Bryan Burnham missing almost the entire 2012 campaign. Unfortunately for him, he won't have an opportunity to return to the field. TU announced on Tuesday that Burnham was denied a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA.
Burnham also missed the 2008 season because of an illness and spent the 2010 season playing defense.
"We're disappointed with this ruling and after consultation with Bryan's family the decision has been made to file an appeal," said coach Bill Blankenship. "It's unfortunate that Bryan lost the 2012 season due to an ACL injury after just one game and the 2008 season due to illness, where his health was of utmost concern to the coaching staff."
Burnham was the Golden Hurricane's leading receiver in 2011 with 54 receptions for 850 yards and nine touchdowns. He had a then-team leading nine receptions for 90 yards this year before sustaining the knee injury in September. He finishes his career with 63 receptions for 940 yards.
